How do you like eating almonds? Shelled almonds or what? Definitely you would love to eat this already shelled or else you would always bang your hammer or a piece of something to shell the almonds. :-) Well, if you ask me, I really like eating almonds. Oops, in an ice cream! But not in a pack. I don't know about you but sometimes it's some kind of monotonous having a lot than in something but this thing, nope, I like to munch-in a lot. Alright, this is my first time buying or eating an almonds in a big pack. As if how many months of supply for me. DH don't like it that much so it's only myself I can depend on to eat this. Haha! I was just curious having this one because my doctor advised me to eat this instead of peanuts. And so I tried since I also like it in ice cream mix and I love it!

Ah, the journey of Cacai M.'s firsts. A big pack of shelled almonds! Just only for myself. Wahheheh!

By the way, do you like almonds?

First time I heard about this word "clawfoot tub", I ain't sure what it meant. Well, on the first word, for sure the tub I know but sometimes phrases or  words won't coincide. And so I then saw a picture of what it is. And yes, it is a tub. Ha! A fancy tub, clawfoot tub, alright. It is fancy for me since it is not meant as ordinary (here in US of A) where it has to be placed under a shower or where one stoop-in for taking a shower. Ah, such a strange word for me. Ooh well, from that moment I saw one, then I knew what it is. :-) I wasn't raised where clawfoot tub is just an ordinary, you know. Haha! Pardon if it makes you laugh, funny a bit. :-P And so then, do you like to splurge yourself in a clawfoot tub? Have you been free from stressed then after putting-up your bud in there? Usually, it does. And it's great to have it, don't you think? ;)

Hello! How is everybody? I hope everything's fine despite of all the trials, hardships, obstacles and all such! Life is like that. As it has been said a recipe should always have spices to have it taste good or else it does not taste as food, agree? So we need to have courage! Just like me, I almost gave up when I was sick for one week. As in I cannot control my body that was why I can tell "I am dying" but then here I am standing, writing still! And so keep the life going! Life is great!

Well, before I proceed this isn't Friday here in my time but since in other part of the world is Friday already, then food trip Friday time! And my food trip for today is guava. I want to eat a fresh about-to-ripe guava. Though this craving was already in Sunday to which I can found no fresh guava anywhere in the market, I just settled for guava in syrup to at least feel such. But to my dismay, it was being sliced and without its skin already and the worst (sorry for the word), as I took a bite it is too sweet (what is syrup for anyway) for my taste bud this time. I then take the bowl off with its cover and put it in refrigerator hoping I would like to eat it the next time around but not yet as of now. By the way, am pregnant. That maybe the reason am picky. Until now, I don't like to eat and feel nauseous. :( I can settle a milk and one or two piece of cheese bread in the morning, one piece of banana fruit for lunch and another fruit for evening. Thankfully I have vitamins or else. :(

Who wants to eat or taste it? It's free, you can have it all should you like {though I don't think you will like the taste too but then as I said, if ever you do}. :-)

My kitchen journey is on. :-) Foodies, come on.. :) Pandesal is a common Filipino bread which most of folks in Philippines knows this kind of carbohydrates family. Yeah, you know that bread is a family of carbohydrates, right? :-) Some called this as a "Philippine national bread" but there is no really a formal known as it is, it is just what most folks said. This is great for breakfast paired with a hot chocolate or coffee or in between. This is not common in the place where I am now but I can get it in nearby city to which if I buy, I have to get two big bags.. lol.. ooh well, it's just once in a blue moon you know.. hehehe.. kidding aside but seriously, I put the other bag in a at the top of the freezer so it will go in icy and it is fresh good for how many weeks as long as it is in freeze and the other one I put it at below on normal cold. I just missed this bread a lot (but only second to pan-de-che, for me). :-) Anyway, to those of you who taste this bread, what do you think it's taste? Did you like it? Do you miss it sometimes if not in your locality?

One more thing, I got curious of a coconut jam to which it is my first time to see it in a glass jar below. I thought it is "calamay" in a glass. It is in my thought that if manufacturer put it in a coconut bagol. If you know "calamay", do you think so? I haven't eaten it yet. I just put it in refrigerator and it got me puzzled if it really is. Well, I leave that to you folks if it really is. Ooh well, perhaps you said that what's the taste of it. Hemmm.. I will have to taste this as soon as my taste bud would allow me to. Really, I will. Whatever it is, since I know it is not poisonous (lol), I will taste it. Since I already eat a lot of jam like mango jam, strawberry jam, guava, etc --- I will not afraid to taste it. :-) I have to compare if it really is the same as in "calamay sa Bohol". I hope it taste as like it. :-)

coco jam (as in coconut jam)

Its price by the way is same as to nutella spread of about the same size. I wonder how it tastes since it is pricey. :-) If you know and taste like an image above, would you like to share how coco jam tastes? How do you like it? Ooh well, am hungry now, I will eat heavy meal first then will eat that for snacks later with lemonade. :) Let's eat..

pork bokchoy soup

This Friday, my entry for Food Trip Friday is the one above, a pork bokchoy soup. This is my first time actually of eating bok-choy though the taste is just the same to "pechay". I can always see this vegetable (bokchoy) when am on the market though am not am not sure what is this and to think that its appearance is just similar to "pechay", I was ecstatic to taste of it (well, just only this week) though am so fond of eating "pechay" in my country home. It is just that there is a difference of its appearance and I can only sometimes get pork at the same time since DH is not that fond of pork (he likes beef more), so am just only the one who will eat pork more. Sometimes, I just go for beef instead of getting pork because the lazy in me strikes sometimes --- lazy to cook another recipe. :) So that is it, I was able to get a small bag of bok-choy and cook a soup out of it with a pork and a lot of spices I put on. I currently love to have a lot of bell peppers though I put also put ginger, tomato, a dash of salt and a little rings of onion. :) Soup is good at early in the morning by the way, though am a night owl person but I really manage to cook it at early, well, my stomach also longs for a hot foodie so I was pushed to cook it early. :) Then, I paired it with a little rice.

Have a fun food tripping this Friday folks.. Enjoy.. :-D

This is so far my first taste of pork blood stew or "dinuguan" here in US of A but definitely not my very first ate. I like this cuisine so much but yeah some folks think this is weird especially the Muslims?... Americans also would be shock of this cuisine but to other folks like me, it taste so good and so delicious! There are two ideas of color this cuisine is as what I have seen in my entire eating of this food. :) Some cook like to do the brown color pork blood stew and some likes to have the idea of black color though there are many ways of how they cook it, according to ingredients and measurements but all uses vinegar and spices. :)

black idea of cooking the pork blood stew

This cuisine is great if paired with white rice cakes or steamed rice. Then a bottle of 12 ounce soft drink afterward. :) That is it folks, have a great food trip Friday! Enjoy eating.. :)

Can you see the difference than other sweet potato? Yep, a purple color that is. It is uncommon in my place, apparently it seldom appears in the market. The taste is also sweet and yummy! To tell you, that is my first taste of purple yam on my own kitchen. I steamed it like any other sweet potatoes I got though there are many other delectable tasty recipes you can get out of purple yum potatoes. As judging from my words, you can tell this is still a family of potato. I got it as long ones and I do not know if there are different sizes of this kind of potato because potatoes usually can have many sizes and some are big and others are small oblong. Also you can see the colors of the left two yams are darker than the other four, that is because I cut the big one into two before putting it in the pot and let it steamed. It is big and once its big, it does cook longer so if you want it to cook in normal way, you may like to cut such. And the end result is the potato meat turn darker the ones that haven't.

Have you taste a sweet potato like this before? Is it common in your place? Whatever it is, have fun eating... :-)

gizzard adobo in skillet

I know typical Americans or some part of the world do not like inner body part of meat as their food but most Filipinos do (am a Filipino). People of any areas have differences and I understand that. I even read some not-so-good comments on other blogs but I do not care, it is their business so I respect them. Anyhoo, speaking of adobo(pork adobo) it is very well-known as it is Filipinos signature food, I guess. What about gizzard adobo? Male pinoys like this a lot. I remember, my late grandfather and other male relatives in an island, loves this so much to which I was curious of tasting it. The way it is cook makes a difference. I like it a lot and now, I somewhat get used to it. :-) An image above is what I cooked more than two weeks ago (the date tells), it was my first time cooked of this as I do not like cooking when I was still single and besides I haven't seen this before in the place where I am now, so definitely my first time. I planned to cooked it as fried because I am not that good in adobo as to pork adobo --- I cannot perfect it as to what the typical adobo taste but fortunately, it turned into adobo without my knowledge.. :-) I utilized the spices I had to which those are: garlic, onion and three colors of fresh bell peppers (green, orange and red) with olive oil, soy sauce and a pinch of salt then a touch of water. My mind planned only to fried it but to my surprise I was gathering some spices which you do not need when frying, then I just then continued because I had it already in my hand. hehehe.. what a coincidence. :-) So the adobo recipe went. I used a lot of spices (half to soak it and half on the final touched) to get the smell of chicken. And to my surprise, I did it good to what I didn't expect but the taste that I adored when someone good at adobo does. Whew! It is really good when it's just only a little sauce it has or let it soak for minutes with its sauce leaving it a bit. Just not a lot of salt but more soy sauce and a touch of water so the sauce is not dark, and also be sure the oil is not much and not less --- just enough that you could see the oil when it is already cook. Boiling the gizzard before the adobo process is the important step.

Above image is fresh from my skillet and ready for me to eat. :-) Actually, I just ate minutes ago because I craved as I saw this image. :-) Have fun eating (if you like gizzard)! Paired it with soft drink after ward. (~_~)

mash potato, rice, meat, corn bread and red cake

That was a combo meal (with a white soft drink which is not seen in an image) my DH brought for me one day last month (February) during their celebration of Black History Month at his office workplace (Department of Public Works, Los Angeles area). I do not know if this is their signature food though.. :) but the thought of he brought me such is so cool for me. :) I love the foods as it tastes good to my sense especially that is has rice.. :) Anyway, it was my first time to eat such except the corn bread, rice and mash potato but as I said my taste bud liked it though I do not know the name of the cake which has the color red. It has a sweet taste but not that so sweet. Perhaps you know the name of it, would you like to tell me (if you know it)? I will definitely buy such cake if there's some store who sells it but unfortunately I haven't seen such cake in the place we live now and I also do not know if they buy it or home made, I will then ask my DH later. Hemmm.. as of now, I want to indulge myself eating it.. lol.. I have to stop myself or else... :-(... So then, have a fun food trip this Friday folks! What have you eaten there by the way? Could you spare me some.. heheh.. just kidding.. just share it then below should you like to do so... Have a great Friday as thanks God it's triday! Happy food trip! (~_~)

yellow sweet potatoes

Those were my first taste of yellow sweet potatoes root crop here in US of A and I have to say it was worth the wait because the taste is really sweet unlike the others that it is yellow but the taste is no good. How to cook it the simple way? Well, I guess the cooks know about this because this is the basic style of cooking, it is called "steaming". Well, there are many recipes out of sweet potatoes but I choose the easy one and the usual cook I had while I was still in the island I grew up in Philippines. As you also can understand, there are many varieties of potatoes, there are sweet and any other taste and colors not only two but many which belong to potato family. Okay, to those who do not know about steaming potatoes, here are some of my simple procedures and perhaps tips. I use a pot just enough for the sweet potatoes. (1)Wash the potatoes. (2)I then cut the big potatoes so the cooking time won't take long. I also made sure that water was just enough to cover or level up the potatoes in a pot. (3)I let it boil. Once, it was already boiled, I turned the heat down leaving a little heat enough to continue the sweet potatoes boiling. (4)Then check time to time for about twenty minutes depending upon how big and how many potatoes you put in a pot. Then check afterward if it is already cook and done!

this is the side view of the yellow sweet potatoes I cooked

Have fun cooking and eating.. :-) You can have soft drinks or water for the drinks. Enjoy.. (~_~)

sweetened black sticky rice (biko) with its puddings and stuffs

Hello folks, how is everyone doing? How is your Wednesday? I hope all are fine and doing great. On my side, I am a bit hungry now... (mmmmm) especially looking at this snacks above. Let us have some of it... have you ever tried such? For me, it was my first time eating with all the package shown on the image. Usually it is just composed of black sticky rice and some bread but I was curious what was the taste of that yellow pudding paired with the stuff on the small circle white stuff. It was delicious only the sweet black sticky rice was not that soft compared to normal cooking, I guess I got the not-so-good one but still it taste good. If it was soft then I would say it was perfect. Next time, I have to get the soft one... my preference is not that good on a little not-so-soft. Others (I guess) likes it that way. I guess, you like it this way? Enjoy eating... :-)

banana peanut salad

How is everyone this weekend? I hope you guys are enjoying bonding with your family in there. Mine is pretty okay though it is still raining over here until now. The good thing is I have not heard major damages aside from minor floods in the road and peeps who want to have a walk cannot do such. Anyway, would you care to prepare my own banana salad recipe? This is just a simple and out of my curiosity as well on experimenting my recent craved peanuts in a fruit salad. Usually I put peanuts on maja blanca dessert only and some on vegetable salads. So I thought of putting it in one of my top fruit of my choice which is banana. It is done just like fresh or canned fruits salad. The procedure is so easy as 1-2-3! (1) I just slice the banana fruit into small slices, (2) then I put nestle cream and condensed milk (you can substitute nestle cream and condensed milk with evaporated milk or fresh milk if you wish too; that's what I did when I run out of such), (3)then put peanuts (or you can add too whole kernel corn with it if you like corns), and done! It is good when it is cold, you may feel like put ice or put in the fridge before eating. It is easy, isn't it? Have a happy dessert eating with sprite without caffeine. Have a nice day and TGIW (Thanks God It's Weekend)... (~_~)

pork tocino

It is already Friday! Ooh did I say, it is already Friday? Oops yes, it is. This also means to me that I have to get back to my usual routine on weekends beginning Friday (DH won't work during Fridays up to Sundays yet still have 40 hours per week of his work---think it, how... hehehe..), preparing breakfast by my own hands. I used to do it for this days because DH usual moment is he did not eat breakfast during his working days. All I do that days are ironing his upper shirt/suit, give water for his medicine and making sure that I remind him of his stuff like things to carry going to work or stuffs like that. And so, one day I saw this pork tocino in the market, it was my first time by the way, and bought one pack because I feel eating it aside from let my DH taste. Then the following morning, I did but unfortunately I was the only one ate because he did not felt like eating such that time. He was and currently still on his two pieces of toast bread with butter and other one toast with jam or jelly with boiled or scrambled eggs, then sausage and bacon (sometimes) then as always his fruit juice with four ice cubes. And mine, got the toast breads and the tocino with boiled eggs with coffee and milk (sometimes)--mostly I just drink water or milk. And so, would you care exchange with your pork tocino there? heheh.. just kidding aside, the question is-- do you like tocino for breakfast like I do? What's your favorite breakfast or brunch? Whatever it is, happy eating... :-)

This was my question days ago already until lately. I have in mind that ham could be stored longer but I was a bit skeptical since my husband said that it should have to be threw away because it is not good anymore. And now the fully cooked smoked boneless ham I baked on the Christmas eve is still here in my refrigerator. I don't want to throw it away because I believe foods should not be treated that way. Ooh well, I kept on searching and finally I made up my mind to just throw it since yesterday I smelled and tasted a little bit "no good" anymore or I thought that it's just what my taste felt after eating it little by little all by myself (the two pounds boneless ham) because my husband don't like it even just a bit. He just don't like as what he told and I didn't want to force him. And so, I left ate that alone for how many days.. lol.. It was my first time of cooking it that's why and I just love its taste.

an image last Christmas eve(Dec 24, 2009)

Okay, research showed (from Food Safety and Inspection Service of United States Department of Agriculture) that fully cooked unopened ham after purchase should be consumed within seven days. On the other hand, if it is opened, three days for ham slices and seven days for the whole ham. However, on or before that date, you can put it at the top most of the refrigerator(freezer) for as long as you want as long as it doesn't have a label on its package the "use-by" date before you gonna eat it or else the taste is not quality anymore. You can also determined through its odor and taste whatever the date is. Best put it in refrigerator not less than 45-60 minutes after opening and again, any food (unless for baby or infant) can be stored for longer period if put in freezer (icy area). So that's it, I better throw my ham later since it became monotonous to my taste already and stayed already more than seven days at the lower side of the refrigerator, and the third reason is the taste differs. I don't want to take a chance with it or else I would get sick because of it. Anyway, it's just somewhat like a half a pound only left so it's not that so "heart-breaking" to my part no more. :-) Goodbye my ham..
